Abstract
In a re-examination of the evidence for higher Holocene sea level in the south China coast, we have concluded that the radiocarbon date reported previously for a fixed biomarker in Hong Kong indicated Middle Holocene sea level was no higher than about 2 m above the present mean sea level. Because of the coastal configuration of the biomarker site, the sea-level elevation should be adjusted downwards by about 10 cm to take into account monsoon forcing. In order to further refine the elevation of the higher Middle Holocene sea level, it is necessary to date further fixed biomarkers from other shores with different orientation in the region.
