Abstract :
Mahalabiu is a kind of oral literature containing double-meaning, usually the listener interprets the speech conveyed wrongly. Mahalabiu behavior is the behavior of the common Banjar language where it is used to outwit a friend by new means of expression. The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning and function of Mahalabiu. The source of the data in this study is a collection of Mahalabiuians from observations of the people who live in the Central Tambalang, Kecamatan Sei Pandan (Alabio) Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Utara Province of South Kalimantan. The technique of data collection in this research is text observation while data obtained were from collecting, reading and classifying Mahalabiu with its meaning and function.
