Abstract :
Uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed on saturated frozen clay with different dry density at various strain rates and temperatures. The test results show that the compressive strength of frozen clay linearly increases with decreasing temperature and exponentially increases with increasing strain rate (or decreasing time to failure). The compressive strength of frozen clay also increases with increasing dry density in a certain range of dry density. The models for estimating the uniaxial compressive strength of frozen clay based on strain rate (or time to failure), temperature and dry density were presented.
