Abstract :
Wildfires tend to occur when the environmental conditions are right: typically, abundant fuel source, dry weather, and high winds. It seems improbable that even with a potentially intense ignition source such as an extraterrestrial impact, fires would be widespread or long-lasting unless these conditions were met. Non-expert eyewitnesses do not provide reliable evidence. Blasts from such events could provide dead fuel-rich sites for later lightning-ignited wildfires, when climatic conditions were more conducive to fires.
