Abstract :
This study documents the Permian–Triassic Boundary in the Žiri area of western Slovenia. A paleontological study of the Lukač section, northwest of Žiri, resulted in the recovery of a variety of microfossils. This report documents the conodont fauna recovered from the section. This is the first report of the Hindeodus–Isarcicella population in Slovenia and it provides important new biostratigraphic data for the definition of the Permian–Triassic Boundary. Hindeodus parvus has been recovered, and its first appearance in the lowermost Werfen Formation indicates the base of the Triassic Period. Based on the conodont taxa H. parvus, Hindeodus typicalis, Hindeodus sp., Isarcicella isarcica, Isarcicella lobata, Isarcicella staeschei, Isarcicella turgida, and Isarcicella sp. A, at least three faunas can be distinguished, and they make possible a worldwide correlation.
