There have been no breakthroughs in the physicochemical studies of pulmonary surfactants in the past two years, only steady advances by a rather small group of dedicated specialists who concentrate most of their research efforts on these materials. Some of the inadequate surface chemical techniques employed in earlier studies continue to be used and render conclusions drawn to be somewhat unreliable.
