Lubricants and overcoats for magnetic storage media

Continued increases in hard disk data storage densities will place increasing burdens on the ultra-thin (<20 إ) fluid films used to lubricate the head/disk interface. Recent progress in this technology includes development of a detailed physical model of stiction between the read-write head and the disk surface and a fundamental understanding of the interactions between lubricants and the disk surface.
