Fluctuating Euler characteristics in lamellar and microemulsion phases

Various processes such as membrane fusion, collapse of giant vesicles, rupture of membranes, clustering, spipodal decomposition in mixtures and phase transitions in solutions of lipids and surfactants are all accompanied by changes in the topology of a system. Recently the Euler characteristic has.been applied for direct monitoring of these changes.
