Abstract
Charged polymers are macromolecules with ionizable groups. These polymeric systems demonstrate unique properties that are qualitatively different from their neutral counterparts. In this review I survey the recent progress made in understanding properties of the solutions of charged polymers, swelling of polyelectrolyte gels, conformational transformations of charged dendrimers, complexation between charged macromolecules, adsorption of charged polymers at surfaces and interfaces, and multilayer assembly in ionic systems.
