Abstract
Analytical solutions are derived for two wind fields. The wind fields describe the meridional circulation of a compressible fluid and respectively differ in symmetry about the equator. The wind fields are derived with several approximations. The approximations include a linearization of atmospheric radiation and momentum dissipation. Further approximations are made by assuming quasi-geostrophic flow and by removing the latitudinal variation in the coriolis parameter. The derived wind fields can be useful in studies of meridional transport because their application requires only basic atmospheric properties. The solutions are then applicable when observations are insufficient for detailed simulations of the meridional circulation. Additionally, the wind fields can be used to comprehensively determine the effects from meridional transport because they include adjustable wind speeds so they can be used to comprehensively determine the effects of meridional transport.
