Abstract :
Korenaga [Korenaga, J. Effective thermal expansivity of Maxwellian ocean lithosphere. Earth Planet. Sci. Lett. 257 (2007) 343–349], apparently unaware of Pollack [Pollack, H.N. On the use of the volumetric thermal expansion coefficient in models of ocean floor topography. Tectonophysics 64 (1980) T45–47], has confirmed Pollackʹs essential result: the apparent volumetric thermal expansivity of oceanic lithosphere is less than the intrinsic value indicated by mineral physics data and less than the value suggested by models in which oceanic lithosphere is treated as a fully relaxed fluid.
