Abstract :
In this study, finned tubes failed during hydraulic test and during service were analyzed. Chemical composition of the failed finned tubes satisfied the requirement of ASME specification SA-178, grade C. The finned tube failed during hydraulic test showed longitudinal crack parallel to the tube axis. The failure causes of the finned tubes were typically assessed by applying visual examination, microstructural observation, fractographic method and mechanical test such as tensile test and hardness test. Conclusively, the failure of the finned tube during hydraulic test was caused by improper welding process.
