Abstract
An approximate analytical solution for plasticity-corrected stress intensity factor (PC–SIF) is developed on the basis of Eshelby equivalent inclusion theory and transformation toughening theory both for plane stress mode I and mode II cracks. As validated by detailed finite element analysis the approximate solution has good accuracy. The proposed PC–SIF provides a new mechanical parameter to describe the fatigue and fracture behaviors associated with crack tip plastic zone for mode I and mode II cracks under plane stress loading conditions.
