  • Abstract
    The crack growth rate under a purely thermal stress driving force is numerically computed on a typical first wall geometry. The results obtained are compared with the experimental data of an hoc thermal fatigue test. The crack growth rate was decreased by the crack branching and by the presence of other minor cracks nucleated close to the main one. Therefore, the numerical evaluation proved to be conservative with respect to the experimental results.
