  • Abstract
The main neutronics characteristics of the SNEG-13 facility for application to the program of low-activation fusion material study are described. The neutron irradiation conditions and the radioactivity measurement technique are given. The first results for activation study of the samples of Russian ferritic steel of type 10X9VFA, considered as one of the cand idate first wall structural materials for the Russian Demo design, are presented. A comparison with MANET steel activation experiments, which were conducted earlier at the SNEG-13 facility in similar conditions in frameworks of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Germany, has shown that the specific radiation intensity of steel 10X9VFA at cooling times of a few days is nearly twice lower than that of steel MANET. This is explained mainly by the lower content of nickel in steel 10X9VFA. The experimental data are to be used for direct comparison of activation characteristics of perspective fusion structural materials, as well as for validation of activation data in activation benchmark-experiments.
