Abstract :
The lattice design for the proposed University of Maryland electron ring consists of magnetic elements with extended fringe fields. The transfer maps for these elements are obtained and used for a numerical study of the single-particle dynamics in the ring aimed to determine the dynamic aperture. Linear and non-linear fringe field effects are included, and a comparison is made with the more common treatment that neglects linear and non-linear fringe field effects. Map methods as implemented in the code MARYLIE are employed for the study. The results show that the physical aperture of the pipe is within the region of stable motion.
