Status of ITER research and development in the USA

The US Home Team, in close collaboration with the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Joint Central Team and other Home Teams, performs certain technology research and development tasks for the ITER Project. This paper provides an overview of the current status of such tasks. The US Home Team devotes most of its effort to the central solenoid model coil and the divertor cassette projects. Additional efforts are devoted to safety issues, first wall materials, vacuum vessel welding, ion cyclotron heating components, fueling and tritium components and diagnostics. In general, good progress has been made towards meeting the objectives of the engineering design activities phase.
