Abstract :
An impact study of cryogenic deuterium pellets on flat metal target plates with and without a Viton rubber covering has been carried out to simulate the pellet transportation in a pellet funnel covered inside with a Viton rubber. The funnel is used to decrease horizontal angular scatter of the pellets to the acceptable degree so that the pellets can pass a Teflon guiding tube with less damage. Results indicate that in both cases, the pellets after impact are of similar performance and nearly ideal damping, and that many pellets with velocity less than 800 m/s can pass through the present pellet funnel. Performance of the pellet injector and the impact study under different pellet incident angles and pellet velocities are described in detail.
