Abstract
The equilibrium formulation for the extraction of TiO2+ from 1 M (Na+, H+) SO42− solution by di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in n-hexane has been investigated. It is observed that the TiO2+ species is polymerized in both phases and the degree of polymerization increases as its concentration in the aqueous phase is increased. The organic phase titanium species is at best trimerized. The extractant dependence is found to be a function of TiO2+ concentration. In the scarcity of extractant, the bisulphato complex of titanium seems to be extracted. The calculated Kex values are also found to be a function of TiO2+ concentration in the aqueous phase. Some interfacial tension measurements have been reported and explained.
