Abstract :
A Large Eddy Simulation Eulerian–Lagrangian particle methodology is applied to the study of a two-phase flow in an experimental burner. A Lagrangian description of the dispersed phase is adopted and combined with an Eulerian description of the continuous phase with two-way coupling between the gas and the liquid phases. A probabilistic description of the liquid phase is incorporated and stochastic models for the filtered Lagrangian rates of change of droplet position, mass and temperature are presented. A stochastic formulation for the droplet number is incorporated into the equation describing the evolution of the spray pdf in order to simulate the atomisation of sprays in the framework of uncorrelated breakup events. The performance of the numerical methodology is investigated through comparison of the predicted values of the gas-phase, as well as data for the liquid phase with experimental data.
