Abstract :
Schizophrenia is one of the most common psychiatric disorders and
one of the ten leading causes of mental disability. Level of education,
family factors and individual culture affect the patients’ quality of
life. Due to the greater prevalence of this disease and the impact of
its symptoms on the one’s quality of life, this study was conducted on
the people with chronic schizophrenia to determine in which aspects of
their quality of life is more likely affected in Semnan, Iran. This
descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted on 37
patients with non-paranoid schizophrenia. To evaluate their quality of
life, the short-form of the questionnaire of world health organization
quality of life (WHOQOL-26) was used. Data were analyzed using one-way
analysis of variance. The participants in this study gained the highest
quality of life in the domain of physical, environmental and
psychological health and social relationships. There was no significant
relationship between the different aspects of the quality of life in
this study. It can be concluded that schizophrenia can have an effect on
the quality of life. Some items such as family care, early and on time
treatment play an important role in increasing the quality of
life.
