Abstract :
ABSTRACT: “Parenting Styles of Parents for Character Building Through Application of Traditional Games in Early Childhood, 4 – 5 Years Old”. This study was to determine the pattern of parenting styles, to understand the values of characters that are developed in early childhood, as well as to identify the games traditionally played by parents to early childhood. The subjects were 30 parents and 30 children aged 4-5 years early. Qualitative research method is naturalistic study. The fi ndings show that parents educate dominant early childhood are democratic parenting style; the values of the characters that appear consistently in the game is honesty, discipline, tolerance and love of peace, confi dence, independence, respect and courtesy, and responsibility; as well as the kind of play that is applied in the traditional game is played cooperatively, the games carried by more than two children, and among the players play the role of the appropriate role. The study also showed that the consistency of parenting style of parents greatly help the development of formation of character values in early childhood; the ideal time to instill and develop character values are 0-5 years of age; as well as traditional games, as a cultural heritage of the ancestors of Indonesia, must be preserved by parents and taught to younger children in the house with a relaxed atmosphere, warm, communicative, and friends, and equipment and materials are inexpensive game, being around the house, and safe for children age early.
