Dinamika Wanita Betawi pada Abad ke-20

ABSTRACT: “The Dynamics of Betawi Women in the 20th Century”. The Betawi women generally tend to marry someone from another ethnic, who is much more mobile, than marry with Betawi people themselves. The Betawi women are much more active in the general activities, such as professional activities, working in government aff airs, and involving in activities of religious in “majlis taklim”. However, with the number of immigrants from various ethnic groups in the Archipelago and abroad, in the era of globalization in the late 20th century and the rise of development in Jakarta, then, there was a change to the Betawi people, especially against the women. From interviews conducted by the author with a number of Betawi women (more or less 50 people), both of which live in the suburbs and the city center, it was found that many Betawi women who already achieved the higher education. Likewise, on the level of participation in the labor force has begun to look real. Betawi women have also been gathered and compiled the struggle medium in a form of organization, which is familial and social aff airs, namely PWB (Betawi Women Association). PWB was established on March 25, 1984, in Jakarta and fi ght for their existences and roles are still exist, both at the national and international stage. With their social capitals are open to any culture, quickly adjust, and have religious values that are so thick, Betawi women expected to bring Indonesian man/women who good deed and fear of Almighty God, to participate in national development for welcoming the 21st century.
