Abstract :
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between using virtual social networks and happiness and academic performance among high school senior sharp-minded students in Zanjan in 2015-2016. This was applied descriptive correlational study. The population consisted of all high school senior sharp-minded students in Zanjan (N=1107). According to Morgan table and using stratified random sampling method, 285 students were selected as sample. The researcher-made social networks questionnaire and Oxford’s Happiness Standard Questionnaire were used for collecting the data. The data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that there was difference between girls and boys in joining social networks. There was negative and significant correlation between joining social networks and academic performance among boys and girls. There was significant relationship between hours of using social networks and academic performance among the boys. However, there was negative and significant correlation between hours of using social networks and academic performance among the girls. Also, there was difference between boys and girls in hours of using social networks. There was no significant relationship between using social networks and happiness of male students. However, there was negative and significant correlation between using social networks and happiness of female students.
