Abstract :
Activated carbon from cassava peels was prepared and characterized for various physiochemical properties such as moisture content, volatile matter and surface area. The effects of various parameters such as adsorbent dose, contact time, adsorption temperature and pH were studied to optimize the conditions for maximum adsorption. The mechanism of the rate of adsorption was studied using the pseudo – first order
lagergren equation, Svante Arrhenius equation and the Gibbs free energy equation was used for the determination of adsorption thermodynamics. The adsorption isotherms were described by means of Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations and also Temkin isotherm equation which considered the effects of indirect
adsorbent/ adsorbate interactions on adsorption process. The fitness of the data was measured using the value of the coefficient of correlation (R2). The thermodynamic constant (K ), standard free energy ( G°), enthalpy ad ( H°) and entropy ( S°) were calculated for predicting the nature of adsorption. Results obtained show the
effectiveness of activated carbon from cassava peels as suitable adsorbent for the treatment of effluent wastewater.

كربن فعال از پوست كاساوا تهيه گرديد و خصوصيات الكتروشيميايي آن از قبيل مقدار رطوبت، مواد فرار و مساحت سطح مشخص گرديد. اثرات پارامترهاي مختلف مانند ميزان جاذب، زمان تماس، دماي جذب و pH در جهت بهينه سازي شرايط براي حداكثر گرگرن شبه درجه اول و معادله سوانته آرنيوس بررسي گرديد و جذب بررسي گرديد. مكانيزم سرعت جذب با استفاده از معادلات معادله انرژي آزاد گيبس براي تعيين ترموديناميك جذب به كار گرفته شد. ايزوترمهاي جذب توسط معادله ايزوترم فرندليچ و لانگمير و همچنين ايزوترم تمكين كه اثرات برهمكنش هاي غير مستقيم جاذب و جذب شونده را ارائه مي كند، مورد بررسي قرار گرفت. ميزان برازش داده ها با استفاده از ضريب همبستگي (R) تعيين شد. ثابت ترموديناميكي (Kad)، انرژي آزاد استاندارد "AG)، آنتالپي (H) و آنتروپي (AS) براي پيش بيني ماهيت جذب محاسبه گرديد. نتايج به دست آمده كارامدي كربن فعال حاصل از پوست كاساوا را بعنوان جاذبي مناسب براي تصفيه پساب نشان مي دهد.
