Abstract :
Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women and is the second cause of mortality among patients
with different types of cancer. Interleukin 17 (IL-17) is the main cytokine secreted by T helper 17 (Th17) cells. This cytokine promotes a
localized tissue inflammation by releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between rs763780T>C IL-17F and rs2275913G>A IL-17A polymorphisms
and BC risk in East Azerbaijan population.
Methods: This case-control study consisted of 80womenwith BC and 80 healthy controls. GenomicDNAwas extracted from peripheral
blood, using the salting out method. Genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by restriction
fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS software package.
Results: The obtained results indicated that there is no significant difference between case and control groups in frequency of
genotypes and alleles at rs763780T>C IL-17F and rs2275913G>A IL-17A polymorphisms (P > 0.05). Also, this study found no significant
difference between case and control groups in demographic variables.
Conclusions: It seems that rs763780T>C IL-17F and rs2275913G>A IL-17A polymorphismsmaynot play an important role in increasing
the susceptibility of women to BC in the population of East Azerbaijan, Iran.
