Abstract :
Half a century ago, when the American Society
of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) was founded in
1964, breast cancer was treated based on the
Halstedian hypothesis of extensive surgery for
locoregional control as well as distant metastasis
prevention. Over the last fifty years, the treatment 1
approaches toward this morbid disease has
transformed enormously. This revolution is 2
mostly the result of a greater understanding of the
biology of breast cancer as well as the
development of targeted therapies
