Abstract :
A new class of N-heterocyclic compounds has been isolated in excellent yields from the 1:1:1 addition reaction between 1,7-phenanthroline and acetylenic esters such as dialkyl acetylenedicaboxylates in the presence of heterocyclic CH compound, 1,3- dimethyl barbituric acid. The structures of compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, mass, IR,1HNMR and13CNMR spectra.
