Abstract :
We report on the preparation of a series of 1H-indole-2,3-diones (isatins) a new microwave-assisted solvent-free approach using lanthanum trichloride heptahydrate (LaCl3.7H2O) as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst. These biologically important compounds were prepared via a condensation reaction of anilines with oxalic acid. The use of inexpensive and reusable catalyst under MWI conditions, and with easier isolation of the products in high yields makes this protocol eco-friendly and versatile compared to the existing procedures.
