Cancer is the second cause of death in the western countries and the 3rd in eastern regions as well as Iran, where the annual death toll due to cancer surpasses 30000, with a direct health expenditure of more than 6 billion dollars a year. Despite rigorous attempts to diminish the burden of cancer, it is estimated to rise in the next decade. So it is crucial to counterattack from different aspects such as: reducing risk factors, molecular biology, clinical management, and providing holistic care. The terms 'health' and 'prevention' have been amalgamated in the literature and each service can be defined at various levels of prevention such as primary, secondary and tertiary. The name "Iranian Journal of Cancer Prevention (IJCP)" has been chosen to respond to all aspects of cancer management. The IJCP, to be published quarterly by the support of Cancer Research Center, Shahid Beheshti Medical University, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, attempts to provide the outstanding research findings conducted in Iran and the neighbouring region to the scientists throughout the world. We believe that communication and the exchange of experience is the cornerstone for development and responding to the needs of our population. We are expecting and looking for the help from all scientists, clinicians and researchers from other disciplines who are interested in the field of malignancies.
