The other authors and I have reviewed the correspondence recently sent by Dr. Sora Yasri and we found the comments made to be interesting and important. The world has been radically transformed by digital technology – smart phones, tablets and web-enabled devices have changed our daily lives and the way we communicate. Medicine is an information-rich enterprise. A greater and more seamless flow of information within a digital health care infrastructure, created by electronic health records and electronic medical registries, encompasses and leverages digital progress and can transform the way care is delivered. Electronic information is available whenever and wherever it is needed. Being able to understand and use digital technology has become an essential skill/ behavior for all healthcare workers. Greater familiarity with technology usually results in higher performance, compliance and confidentiality of patient and healthcare worker information. Electronic systems help with the requirement to report adverse events, identifies persistent problems, encourages increased awareness of patient safety issues and assists in the development of evidence-based initiatives to improve patient safety. Medical errors generally are not the sole result of actions of individuals but rather the failure of the systems and processes used in providing healthcare.
