Abstract :
Abstract lt;br / gt;Chara is an interesting genus from cytological lt;br / gt;view has been extensively worked out in lt;br / gt;Europe and North America, but there is a few reports lt;br / gt;on Asian Charophytes. Chromosome number lt;br / gt;were determined for 10 species of Chara lt;br / gt;from 33 populations. Chromosome counts were lt;br / gt;as follows: C. connivens, n=14, C. contraria, n= lt;br / gt;28; C. crassicaulis, n=21; Chara gymnophylla lt;br / gt;var. gymnophylla, n=14; Chara gymnophylla lt;br / gt;var. rohlenae, n=14; C. kirghisorum, n=14; C. lt;br / gt;kohrangiana, n=21, C. socotrensioides, n=14; lt;br / gt;C. tomentosa, n=14; Chara vulgaris var. longibracteata, lt;br / gt;n=28 and Chara vulgaris var. vulgaris, lt;br / gt;n=28. Authors made cytological studies lt;br / gt;of Iranian charophytes in twelve taxa which 10 lt;br / gt;taxa are new for Iran and five taxa are new for lt;br / gt;science.
