Abstract :
India has been progressively developing in many fronts. India has been able to sustain its numerous on status in milk production. The demand for milk has been increasing exponentially. Milk is consumed by all age group of people in the form of milk, curd and other milk products. This study has been conducted in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India. The geographical area of the district is 5203.30 Sq kms. The sampling unit was Aavin registered milk producer in Salem district (Nine Taluks). The sample size is calculated as 380. The primary data were collected from the Registered Aavin milk producers in Salem district with the help of a Questionnaire cum-Interview schedule. Secondary data were collected from Text books, dairy research institutes like National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Bangalore and Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Salem. The study results were analyzed by using various statistical tools such as Chi-square analysis, Average score analysis, Multiple Regression analysis etc. Indian dairy sector has undergone drastic changes in the wake of liberalization and globalization. The National Commission on Agriculture observed dairy farming as an additional source for improving the status of rural masses, especially weaker section, consisting of small, medium and landless farmers. A study of this kind will facilitate in understanding the problems faced by milk producers.
