  • Abstract
α-Fe2O3 (hematite) nanoparticles were synthesized using tragacanth gel as biotemplate and iron chloride as the iron source by the sol-gel method. This method has many advantages such as nontoxic, economic viability, ease to scale up, less time consuming and environmental friendly approach for the synthesis of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles without using any organic chemicals. Nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the formation of Rhombohedral phase α-Fe2O3 with average particle size of 21 nm.
