Romain Rolland : créativité et immortalité dans Vie de Beethoven et Jean- Christophe

Dans cet article, notre objectif consiste à étudier les thèmes de « la créativité » et de « l’immortalité » dans Vie de Beethoven et Jean-Christophe de Romain Rolland (1866-1944) afin de mettre en évidence l’importance de l’âme héroïque pour toute création artistique. A travers la vie tourmentée de Beethoven (la surdité) et la lutte perpétuelle de Jean-Christophe (la volonté), cet article vise à démontrer que le désir des héros-musiciens pour l’immortalité se fait par l’éveil d’une conviction réelle qu’est la Joie intérieure. L’évolution graduelle de Jean-Christophe dans « L’Aube », « Le Buisson ardent», et « La Nouvelle journée » est le signe d’une sérénité de l’esprit faite par la souffrance et l’espérance. Dans cette recherche, nous nous sommes référés au Mythe du héros de Philippe Sellier pour montrer que les héros rollandiens sont le porteur d’une force morale dont le reflet se voit dans « l’être solaire » considéré comme un modèle de prédilection vers l’éternité.

Studying the concepts of “creativity” and “immortality” in the life of Beethoven and Jean-Christophe by Romain Rolland (1866-1944) in order to see the importance of heroic spirit in artistic creation is the main purpose of the present paper. We will demonstrate a desire to gain immortality for both hero musicians which finds meaning in true faith in art and internal joy through the tumultuous life of Beethoven (hearing impairment) and perpetual battle of Jean-Christophe. The gradual evolution of Jean- Christophe in “The Dawn”, “The Burning Bush” and “The new Dawn” is a sign of mental transcendence that comes from abstinence and hopefulness. In this study, focusing on the Myth of Hero by Philippe Sellier, we try to demonstrate that the moral achievement of Romain Rolland’s heroes materializes in the concept of “the Solar Being”, which is a model to reach immortality. In fact, we can say that heroes’ motivation makes it possible for them to leave darkness behind and to reach light.
