Challenges for Business Education in the Twenty-First Century

The prospects for business education in the next millennium appear dim since analysis of present trends suggests that business education departments will continue their systematic decline and eventual disappearance. Some business education faculty will move into the education colleges, some will go to applied and technology areas, some will be redefined through professional development in alternate areas, and many will go with the microcomputer literacy courses where faculty face a continuous challenge to remain current with the technology while finding that the traditional business education skills orientation may be unproductive and ineffective. The article concludes with suggestions for research that can bring the scope of academic investigation to bear on the challenges faced by business education in the twenty-first century.
