Abstract :
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of simple dilatation in the treatment of post-scleromatous subglottic laryngeal stenosis. Study Design: 12 patients, diagnosed with scleromatous subglottic stenosis and treated surgically with dilatation in the Kasr El-Aini University hospital The mean follow-up period was 10.5 months. Main Outcome Measure: Success of decanulation, quality of voice and respiratory effort. Setting: Tertiary referral center. Results: Surgical complications were minimal. Four patients (33%) needed more than one session of dilatation due to short-term restenosis. In four patients, the use of CO2 laser was used as a complementary tool to remove granulation tissue. Two patients presented with mild stridor over the long term and were managed by one session of endoscopic dilatation. Conclusion: endoscopic dilatation was found to be a successful method for the treatment of scleromatous patients with a grade I and II subglottic stenosis.
