Abstract :
Objective: To try a new instrument to perform continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC). Methods: This experimental study evaluated the technique of capsulorhexis in ten porcine eyes undergoing phacoemulsification. The integrity of the anterior capsular edge was evaluated at the completion of capsulotomy and at the end of surgery. Results: The desired capsulorhexis was achieved in all eyes. Safe phacoemulsification was performed in all cases without a single case of radial extension or other major complication. Conclusion: Trephinorhexis offers an inexpensive, well controlled, and reproducible method to perform CCC.
