Abstract
Blunt Thoracic Trauma (BTT) endangers several structures in the thoracic cage. In general the direct trauma, plus rapid deceleration force contribute in the mechanism of injury for thoracic structures. The main concern in the management of BTT is pulmonary system assessment and correction of newly devolved pathologies together with proper pain control which is crucial in the initial stage. Rib fractures themselves are believed to be very common and have been documented in up to two thirds of the cases of chest trauma.
