Abstract :
Aim of the Study: To compare the safety, efficacy, and acceptability of misoprostol versus surgical evacuation for treatment of incomplete abortion. Type of the Study: Randomized controlled clinical trial. Methods: A total of 200 women with clinically diagnosed incomplete abortions of up to 12 weeks of gestation were randomized to either 600|ig oral misoprostol or surgical evacuation. Women were followed up seven-ten days later to evaluate whether the abortion was complete or not. Results: Success was high for both surgical evacuation and misoprostol groups (100% Vs 94.9%, p 0.05). Women in the surgical arm reported fewer side effects. Women who received misoprostol were significantly more likely to be very satisfied with the treatment and willing to choose the method again. Conclusion: Oral misoprostol may be a practical alternative in the management of incomplete abortion, it is acceptable and tolerable to the patients.
