Abstract :
Background: Pregnant women are a high-risk group for morbidity and mortality from influenza. During the current pandemic of HlNl influenza, few cases of HlNl have been reported in pregnancy. Study selection: We report two cases of parturients infected with swine-origin HlNl influenza virus admitted to the intensive care unit. Setting: Intensive care unit of Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. Conclusions: The management of HlNl infection in pregnant women is so far satisfactory; however: Severe preclampsia, renal failure, and HELLP syndrome should be studied as possible risks factor for severe disease states. Time to stop oseltamivir in relation to patient s clinical manifestations, especially fever, should be clearly indicated.
