Abstract :
Introduction: Comminuted subtrochanteric femoral frac-tures are high-energy injuries in adults. Treatment of commi-nuted subtrochanteric femoral fractures is still problematic. The aim of this study is to evaluate the functional and radio-logical outcomes of comminuted subtrochanteric femoral fractures treated with biological bridge plating fixation and dynamic HIP screw. Material and Methods: We studied thirty cases with comminuted subtrochanteric femoral fractures. Twinty six patients were males and only 4 were females. Average age was 42 years. Patients were classified according Winquist criteria, managed with biological bridge plating fixation. All patients were followed up for an average period of 40 months to monitor the clinical and radiological progress until union. Results: All the fractures united within 4-10 months with an average time of 6.2 months without additional procedures. Two patients had superficial infection, and 2 patients had shortening about 2cm. Conclusion: Biological fixation with bridge plating of comminuted subtrochanteric fracture of the femur by using DHS is a useful method of surgical fixation without major complications.
