Abstract :
Background: Recently LSG has been considered as the best single bariatric surgery in morbidly obese subjects. It was found that LSG gives 71% excess weight loss, 100% rate of resolution of Type 2 DM at 6 months post surgery. The objective of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of LSG in short term Type 2 DM resolution and weight loss. Material and Methods: The study included 12 morbidly obese with Type 2 DM patients during July 2008 to July 2010 who performed LSG with 4 months follow-up. Results: Four months post surgery the overall decrease in BMI was from (48.095±5.6 to 38.034±4.4) with loss of weight 20.8±0.6%. Mean HbA1C preoperatively was 7.61±0.35 vs. 5.90±0.23 post operatively (p 0.05) Type 2 DM had resolved in 66.66% of patients. Conclusion: LSG is so effective in short term weight loss and in Type 2 DM resolution.
