  • Abstract
Aim of Study: To evaluate the efficiency of using BIS adjustment of depth of anaesthesia on shorten recovery times in endoscopic third ventriculostomy. Patients and Methods: Random controlled study including 40 patients 20 patients in each group (group B, group C) ASA 1 and 2, GCS 14-15 undergoing elective endoscopic third ventriculostomy. Results: No significant differences between groups regarding Demographic data, vital signs (ABP, heart rate, O2 saturation. Temperature), GCS, and acid-base status; no statistically significant differences were found between both groups in the preoperative, intraoperative, or postoperative Heamodynamics. BIS readings showed no difference, however there was significantly faster recovery in group B than group C as regarding; time to eye opening (9.1±2 vs 10.6±3 min., p-value=0.03), time to extubation (18.9±3.6 Vs 21±3 min., p-value=0.01), time to verbal response (24.15±4.8 vs 27.35±6.7 min., p-value=0.04), and time to reach baseline BIS (30.4±4.7 vs 34.5±7 min., p-value=0.05). BIS can adjust Depth of anesthetic and helps in shortening of recovery times in patients undergoing ETV. Conclusion: BIS can adjust depth of anaesthesia and help in shortening of recovery times in patients undergoing ETV.
