Abstract :
Hypertension is one of the most common health problems worldwide. The global prevalence of hypertension has been increasing. Health education for hypertensive patient should be designed to increase compliance to lifestyle modification antihypertensive medications.Aim: To evaluate the impact of health education on life style modification for patients with hypertension.Design: Quasi-experimental research design was used. Convenience of 100 adult patients with hypertension was divided on random basis equally into study and control groups (50 each), of both sexes. They were attended to the Aswan University Hospital at outpatient clinic of medicine and cardiology.Subject and Methods: The study group, comprised of 50 patients and they were received the health education regarding lifestyle to control blood pressure. The control group exposed to routine outpatient care only. Data was collected using two tools, socio-demographic and medical date sheet, hypertension knowledge, and health promoting lifestyle profile II.Results: Findings revealed that the age of the study and control groups ranged from 50 to 60 years. Females were more prevalent in the studied sample. Highly statistical significance between the study and control groups immediate post session and follow-up after 3 months for total and all dimensions of lifestyle modification such as health response, physical activity, nutritional habits, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, and reducing stress (p=0.000).Conclusion: The knowledge score and lifestyle modification score of the study group improved significantly after applying the health education lifestyle modification. As well as, the lifestyle modification were effective significant improvement in blood pressure measurements and cholesterol level among hypertension patients in the study group.
