Abstract :
Objective: The study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of flaxseed in management of grade 2 knee osteoarthritis with signs of inflammation. Patients and Methods: 40 cases (30 females, 10 males and ages ranged from 40 to 72 years) with bilateral knee osteoarthritis were given 1 tablespoonful of flaxseed once daily in the morning for 90 days. Results: The 40 patients showed improvement in pain on visual analog scale, tenderness score, morning stiffness time and knee circumference (swelling) at the end of the 3 months. Serum beta-endorphins increased in 85% of cases. Conclusion: Flaxseed is effective and safe in treatment of grade 2 knee osteoarthritis.
