Abstract :
Background: Surgical endoscopic salvage has been validated as an alternative to chemoradiotherapy for managing nasopharyngeal carcinoma with favorable local control and survival rates, different studies had adopted many types of reconstruction of the surgical site. Methods: This study included ten patients who underwent endoscopic nasopharyngectomy, two primary cases of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) and 5 cases recurrent after finishing treatment with chemoradiation by 7-14 months, three patient showed residual disease just after finishing therapy by chemoradiotherapy confirmed by biopsy. Average age was 43.5 years, four males and six females. Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy was carried out without any type of reconstruction in any of the cases. Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) was received postoperatively for all patients. Mean follow-up period was 17.5 months. Results: One patient showed recurrence (10%) and managed by resurgery, no deaths within patients due to the disease (overall survival rate is 100%) at the end of this study with no major complications. Conclusion: It is not mandatory to perform a reconstruction of the surgical site post endoscopic nasopharyngectomy.
