  • Abstract
Aim of Work: To assess visual acuity after combined 360 encircling buckling and Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV) for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD).Patients and Methods: This prospective interventional case series study was conducted in Cairo University Hospitals in which 20 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were included. All patients underwent the surgery under general anaesthesia and were performed by highly experienced retinal surgeons. Visual acuity was followed-up for three months postoperatively after the removal of the tamponading silicone oil. Results: The mean preoperative Best Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) was 1.80±0.48 logMAR and the final BCVA was of mean 0.80±0.32 logMAR.Conclusion: The supplementary encircling scleral band is a useful tool with good success rates in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with good final visual acuity. Conclusion: The supplementary encircling scleral band is a useful tool with good success rates in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with good final visual acuity.
