Abstract :
Background: Nitric oxide is a soluble gas continuously synthesized by the endothelium. This substance has a wide range of biological properties.Nitric oxide is an inorganic gas with a molecular dimensions smiliar to molecular oxygen (O2). It is a two atom compound synthesized by different cell types and tissues in the body.Aim of the Work: This study is an attempt to investigate the physiological and biochemical roles of serum Nitric Oxide (NO) as a new risk factor in hyper tensive patients.Patients and Methods: Over twelve month period, serum Nitric Oxide (NO) levels were measured in 60 hypertensive patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit of Cairo University and also were measured in 20 normal control (healthy).Patients have been categorized into three groups:Group 1: Included 20 hypertensive patients with complicated hypertensive, Group II: Included 20 hypertensive patients with uncontrolled hypertensive, Group III: Included 20 hypertensive patients with controlled hypertensive and control group: Normal volunteers (20 healthy).Blood samples were collected from all groups patients. A part of blood samples collected on heparin to evaluate ADMA. The remaining samples were collected without anticoagulant and separated sera which were stored at 4°C pending various biochemical assays. To measure no and another bio logical parameters e.g glucose, cholesterol ... etc. Results: Group I when compared to Group II showed no statistical significant difference. When compared to Group III showed a highly significant decrease value of nitric oxide with mean (11.65 vs. 40.01), p-value 0.001. When compared to control group showed a highly significant decrease in nitric oxide with mean (11.65 vs. 52.11), p-value 0.001 Group II. when compared to Group III showed a highly significant decrease value of nitric oxide with mean (30.91 vs. 40.01), p-value 0.001. When compared to control group showed a highly significant decreased value of nitric oxide with mean (30.91 vs. 52.11), p-value 0.001. Group III when compared to control group showed highly significant decreased value of nitric oxide with mean (40.01 vs. 52.11), p-value 0.001.Regarding mean NO value statistical analysis revealed: When compared to Group II NO level decreased in Group I than Group II. When compared to Group III NO level decreased in Group II than Group III showed highly statistically significant. In Conclusion: It is concluded from the results of the present investigation that lower nitric oxide levels were significantly in hypertensive than healthy subjects. On the other hand, serum NO level may play an important role in hyper tension.
