  • Abstract
    Background: Burns are one of the most significant health problems throughout the world, leading to prolonged hospitalisation and hence increased expense for the patients, their families and society.Patients and Methods: This study was performed to examine the efficacy of hand burn on quality of life in adult patients. 350 patients (147 male and 203 female) who have chronic hand burn had been selected from Hehia Central Hospital burn department, Age ranged from 21 to 60 years old. Evaluation procedures quality of life assessment structure interview schedule. This tool was developed to assess quality of life following burns using the Burn Specific Health Scale-Brief.Results: This study revealed that hand burns has negative impact on most dimensions of the quality of life of patients with burns.Conclusion: Hand burns affects patient s overall quality of life. It has negative effects on most dimensions of quality of life including physical health, psychological health and return to work after burn. The results of the present study and other studies suggest that a patient s quality of life can be improved through proper assessment of his/her psychological and physical needs.
